All month we’ve been focusing on getting into the Word and getting the Word into you. Many of you have taken our 30-day challenge, shared your tips for getting more out of your devotional time, or opened up about what the Lord is teaching you during personal Bible study. This is good stuff! It reminds me of a charge given in Hebrews 10:24 where we are encouraged to “consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” Your encouragement certainly has stirred me toward more time in God’s Word. I hope we’ve done the same for you!
But, I want to make sure that God’s Truth is moving from your head to your heart. I don’t just want you to spend a few minutes reading the Bible each day so that you can check it off of your to do list. I want you to tap in to the life changing power that God’s Word has to offer to us as believers.
I just read a powerful description of God’s Word today in the book of Hebrews. Hebrews 4:12 tells us “ for the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Did you catch the metaphor there? God’s Word is no ordinary book. It is a message of Truth more powerful than the sharpest sword.
I am praying for you to tap in to that power! I don’t just want you to read the Word. I want you to saturate your life with it. So I am issuing a challenge straight out of the Lies Young Women Believe companion guide. Check it out.
“For the next week, we want you to saturate your life with Truth. Find some Scriptures that are particularly meaningful to you. If you don’t know where to start, concentrate on verses that spell out God’s love for you. (John 3:16 and Psalm 45:11 are examples.) The concordance in the back of your Bible is a great tool to help with this as well.
Write these verses out and cover your world with them. Place a copy on your bathroom mirror, in your car, in your textbooks (Don’t glue them onto your textbooks…we wouldn’t want you to get in trouble!) Come up with creative ways to remind yourself of these verses throughout the day. Allow the power of God’s Word to begin to loosen the power of lies in your life” (Lies Young Women Believe Companion Guide, 25).
As always, we would love to hear about the specifics of how you’ve acted on this challenge here on the blog. Tell us where you’ll be placing Scripture (Your closet doors? Your locker? Your bathroom mirror?). If you’d like, you can even email me photos of your Truth collages at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will post those photos here to encourage others.
So, get going! Cover your world with God’s Truth and keep stirring each other on toward His Word.
