Freebie Friday! Run to You!

I’m proof that you never know where the Lord is going to lead you. Back in 2012, my brother and I were asked to play music at a fundraiser. We dragged our younger sister and brother up onto the stage with us to sing and play a few songs. We’d never performed on a legitimate stage before, but we got up there for twenty-five minutes and played as fast and as loud and as hard as we could!

Since that day in 2012, life has been a roller coaster. The four of us formed a folk/bluegrass/Gospel band (4 Proches) comprised of me (I’m twenty-two), Ezra (nineteen), Liza (sixteen), and Asa (twelve). We started singing and playing around our little hometown. Doors opened, people called, and before we knew it we had recorded an album and played in much of Texas. Last summer we toured the entire western United States and have an upcoming spring tour in the southern states. It’s been a whirlwind journey!

Today, we wanted to give one of you guys our brand-new album Run To You. We wrote three of the four songs on the album and are so excited for you to hear it! (Keep reading to find out how to win.)

God loves using ordinary people who are going about life in ordinary ways to do great things for Him.

Our band believes that you (yes, you!) were created by God for a specific purpose. He’s given you gifts and talents and passions that, if stewarded wisely, have the ability to change the world for Christ! But maybe you don’t really know what gifts you have or what you’re passionate about. You don’t know how to live with purpose because, well . . . you don’t know what your purpose is! Yep, we’ve been there, too. It’s sort of a helpless feeling, right?

We want to share with you a few ways to discover your purpose so that you can pursue passionately what God has called you to do. We know that our purpose is to share music with the world that points to Christ, and here are a few lessons we’ve learned along the way.

1. Pray

Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”

The Lord wants you to ask Him to show you your purpose! Don’t wait.

2. Serve

Serving others reveals what we’re good at and what we’re passionate about. It might be babysitting for a day or helping at the food pantry or taking a mission trip to Guatemala. In the doing, we find what we were made to do. For us, it was taking part in fundraisers or ministry events—we wouldn’t necessarily be paid or get noticed, but we knew that’s where the Lord wanted us to be, serving Him with our music.

3. Ask

Don’t know what you’re good at? Ask the people who know you well! Your parents, close friends, and Bible study leaders have an “outside” perspective and can tell you where your strengths are. We had numerous people tell us in the beginning, “Y’all need to keep pursuing this music thing. It’s such an opportunity for the gospel and to be a light to the world!” On tough days, we think about smiling audience faces and encouraging words, and it helps us realize that this is right where we’re supposed to be. Our purpose is often discovered at the intersection of our gifts and our passions.

One of our favorite mantras is this: “God loves using ordinary people who are going about life in ordinary ways to do great things for Him.” God wants to use you to point the world to His glorious gospel through the use of the gifts He has given you.

One of the songs from our new album is called “Purpose,” and it’s basically this blog post in song format. Check out the music video!

We want to give one of you a free copy of our new album Run To You (which hasn’t even released on iTunes yet!). In exchange, we just want to know one thing . . .

What’s a gift God has given you that you can use to point others to Him?
