It’s happened to me more times than I can count on one hand. My morning alarm clock starts buzzing, and I reach over to click the snooze button. I look at the time and groan . . . way too early! I lie in bed and think about my agenda for the day. I don’t have to leave the house for about an hour. Temptation strikes! Should I get up and read my Bible, or catch a few more minutes of sleep? I convince myself that I’ll do my Bible time later in the day and close my eyes. Well, later in the day never really comes, and I miss my Bible time again. Does that routine sound familiar to anyone?
Hold on. Before you get discouraged over the many times you’ve given in to temptation and chosen your pillow over God’s Word, let me share a story with you.
A few weeks ago I received an email from a good friend. The subject read “Bible Verse Exchange.” The title intrigued me. The email was a chain letter of sorts, which challenged us to send out a daily Bible verse to selected friends on our email list. In return the person would respond and send you a Bible verse back. The goal was to challenge us to get into the Word daily and look for a verse that stuck out to us. What a great way to stay accountable! Who wants their friends knowing you skipped out on Bible reading for the day? Not me!
Confession time: I did not participate in the Bible verse exchange. I thought it was a cool idea and then let it pass me by. Thankfully there is still time to participate, and that is where you come in. I would like to ask each of you to join me for an entire week of Bible verse exchanging. I’m in need of some extra accountability in my daily Bible reading, and I was hoping you would help me.
Here’s the scoop. For the next seven days I will post a Bible verse from my quiet time in the comments below. Your job is to post a verse every day, for the next seven days, in the comments as well. What a great way to keep each other accountable in our Bible reading.
Let’s take the challenge together! Seven days of Bible reading without a single miss. Can you do it? Let’s set those alarm clocks and choose to jump out of bed when we hear the buzzing sound.
Comment below if you want to take the challenge. I’ll be checking the comments daily to read your Bible verse. I can’t wait!
