  1. “If someone killed your mother and brother and you had a chance to meet with them, what would you do?” Whoa. When this question showed up in the podcast description of yesterday’s episode of Revive Our Hearts, it surprised me, yet it still felt like a safe question to answer—most of us will never experience such an extreme scenario. But as I continued listening to the radio program, other questions became more unsettling: How do you respond when a friend offends you? When someone hurts your feelings, do you fight back with anger, let bitterness build up, or do you respond in a way that sets you free?

In my mind, Abigail Dodds is like a wise older sister I wish I could have coffee with all the time, so when I saw her post, “We Become What We Watch: What Entertainment Does to Our Minds,” I read it slowly with an iced pumpkin spice latte in hand. “As we casually scroll social media, or watch the cult-classic sitcoms, or binge on the latest British drama,” Abigail says that “we have hired tutors to instruct us.” We think we’re just being entertained—but it’s while we’re mindlessly consuming media that our adversary allows evil thoughts to move into our thoughts and entrench themselves unopposed. If we want our minds to be transformed, we have to let God himself be the tutor that shapes and transforms us most.
  1. “Imagine your life without feelings—if the smile of a baby didn’t make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, if the amazing grace of God didn’t move you to tears, if your wedding day didn’t give you butterflies, if the smells of your favorite meal didn’t excite you? Wouldn’t life be so dull—so numb—without feelings? Feelings aren’t a part of the curse, but God’s good creation. The problem is how we view our feelings. . . . Feelings can make our vision cloudy,” says Lara d’Entremont. “Learning to discern our feelings requires knowing the Word and hiding it in our hearts.”
  1. Did you catch Micayla Greathouse’s post about the healthiest lifestyle choice you will ever make? It’s not what you think. A few years ago, Micayla started running regularly to develop healthy habits, but her running time eventually became her prayer time, and it changed her life: “When you’re dripping sweat and gasping for breath, you have no room for pretentious prayers,” she says. “It is me talking to God—straight from my heart to His.”

I realize you may be two months into a Spanish class that you’re not exactly thrilled about, but trust me—in ten years, you’ll want to be able to read what your friends around the world are writing, so don’t give up! On Instagram this week, Nicole Tejera, an incredible graphic designer for Aviva Nuestros Corazones, posted her tips to battle anxiety, and her advice is definitely worth copying and pasting into Google Translate if you haven’t quite learned all of those words yet. She also shared a link to a Spotify playlist (with songs in both languages!) that has been quieting my mind all week. I’ve been praying it will help you to rest in Jesus this weekend.
